ATWIMA KWANWOMA DISTRICT ASSEMBLY DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL WELFARE AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT THREE DAYS TRAINING FOR PERSONS WITH DISABILITY HELD AT ATWIMA YABI


The training and sensitization programme took off on Wednesday 5th  to Friday 7th October,2022.The main purpose of this training and sensitization programme was to know the actual needs of the PWDs, and to train the PWDs to make good use of financial support and items they get from government of which the PWDS were trained in mushroom farming and snail farming.Also this training programme was to see how best to link the PWDS to any employment opportunities available to enable the PWDs to cater for themselves because there is a saying that (Disability is not inability). The Department in collaboration with Business Advisory Center (BAC) trained Two Hundred and Twenty Two (222) persons with disabilities on mushroom and snail farming. below is the breakdown.

OUTCOME

The participants asked the following questions;

1. If there is ready market for snail and mushroom production

2. Where to get the needed production materials

3. Where to get startup capital production

4. Who to call for enquiries during production

5. If there could be a link to get potential buyers for the finished products.

6. How fast is the sale of snail and mushroom in the Ghanaian market.

7.What are some of the risks involved in snail and mushroom farming.

The questions were addressed by the head of Business Advisory Centre edging them to take the training serious and probably form groups to gather enough resources since snail and mushrooms have become a favorite delicacy for most Ghanaians.

By the end of the programme participants will be able to:

  • Understand who is  person living with disability
  • Know how to make snail farming and mushroom farming.
  • Know how to apply for PWDs support

The programme ended successfully and all the PWDs participants expressed their satisfaction and recommended that the programme should be organized frequently to equip them and monitor their activities on frequent basis.
