COURT WORK (DISTRICT COURT)

The Atwima Kwanwoma District has one (1) District or Magisterial Court located at Twedie. In addition to the district court, it has a Juvenile and Family Tribunal Courts that adjudicate on relevant cases pertaining to children and families.

The panel is properly constituted as stipulated in the Juvenile Justice (653) and the Children’s Act (Act 560). It has a 3 member panel, which sits every Wednesday. The panel is assisted by a Probation Officer (a Social Worker), who conducts social investigations into cases and writes Social Enquiry Reports for use by the court.

Juvenile Court/ Family Tribunal

During the quarter under review, ten (10) cases were referred to the Juvenile Court or Family Tribunal, mostly juvenile and maintenance cases. The court is fed with cases mostly referred from Nkawie Social Welfare, the police units of Abuakwa, Atwima Techiman, Denkyemuoso, Tanoso and others from communities in and around the Atwima Kwanwoma District. 

A total of two (2) juvenile cases were referred to the probation officer from court of which is still pending.
